A gummy smile is a condition where a person's upper gums are prominently displayed when they smile, making their teeth appear smaller than they actually are. This is often caused by overactive muscles in the upper lip that pull it up too far when smiling. TOX can help reduce the appearance of a gummy smile by relaxing these muscles and preventing them from pulling the lip up excessively.
During a TOX treatment for a gummy smile, a small amount of the neurotoxin is injected into the muscles responsible for lifting the upper lip. By blocking the signals from the nerves to these muscles, TOX prevents them from contracting as strongly as they normally would, resulting in a more subtle and subdued smile with less gum exposure.
Dysport is a local muscle relaxant (or neuromuscular blocking agent) adapted from the botulinum neuromodulator type-A and is used in aesthetic indications.
Xeomin® is made through a unique precision manufacturing process called XTRACT Technology™, that uses two filtration steps to isolate the therapeutic component of the molecule and removes the complexing/unnecessary proteins that don’t play an active role in treatment. Xeomin® is a double filtered neurotoxin.
It generally takes 7 to 14 days to take full effect. It’s best to avoid alcohol starting at least 1 week before the procedure. You should also stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks before treatment to help prevent bruising.
Most neuromodulators are delivered by our Naked Needle process. Patients report substantially less pain than a standard needle.
Avoid rubbing the injection site for 24 hours so you don’t spread the TOX to another area.
